The charming river town of Kratie features plenty of colonial architecture, a laid back atmosphere and a pretty promenade. The surrounding villages, green paddy fields and the stunning riverside are begging to be explored by travellers on bicycles, who will be well rewarded.
Only a few years past, the majority of tourists coming to Kratie just stayed long enough to see the rare Irrawady river dolphins and left again without discovering the beauty of the area, but this has changed and the numbers of visitors spending a few days here is steadily growing.
Stung Treng province boasts stunning natural scenery along the Mekong river. Take time out to explore the Mekong Discovery trail, Preah Rumkel ecotoursim site, the Ramsar wetlands, take a boat tour or kayak the flooded forest, or visit the graet Mekong Falls of Preah Nimith.
